Kamala Beach Phuket
Kamala located on the north of Patong just about 10 minutes drive from Patong and a great place for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle. The southern end of this beautiful bay has a coral reef just a few metres offshore. Kamala is not over-developed yet, although there are some guesthouses and a few resorts.
Kamala Beach is a well-enclosed bay and fishing village encircled by forested hills. It is an ideal place for sunbathing, being decked with serene white sands. There are multifarious activities that you can indulge in at Kamala Beach in Phuket. You can hire a long-tail boat and go snorkeling at the north end of the beach, explore the neighboring beaches of Laem Sing or Surin, or simple explore the island. ย ย ย ย There is a good selection of Thai restaurants, noodle shops and a few western restaurants in the area. The local people are mostly ethnic Malay and there are some good local restaurants serving tasty Muslim food.
Kamala is a good area for watersports. A number of dive shops can be found in the village. The reef at the southern end is a nice spot for snorkelling and the water is lovely for swimming during the dry season. However, because the beach drops sharply into the sea, the currents can be quite dangerous during the rainy season. The northern end of the beach can be a decent surf spot when its working.
The main attraction in Kamala is the Phuket Fantasea, where you can enjoy a buffet dinner as well as an evening of lively cultural entertainment. A beautiful and serene beach, Kamala is perfect for those looking for a relaxed and laid back beach.
Quite a few decent bars can be found along the beach road as it snakes inland. The atmosphere here is quite relaxed and chilled out providing a contrast to the hectic pace over in Patong. There is also a sprinkling of beer bars along the main road. ย ย ย ย The prime attraction of the evening is the famous Phuket FantaSea entertainment complex, where you can enjoy a themed dining and vibrant nightly stage extravaganza. While dining options at Kamala Beach in Phuket are expanding, for a lavish holiday dining, drive 10 minutes north to reach Surin Beach, where you will find some of the most classy restaurants and shopping outlets of Phuket. However, there are very few bars at Kamala Beach for you to unwind.
As for accommodation, there are some places to lodge that offer a comfortable stay supported by lovely views. The most remarkable lodging hunt on Kamala Beach is the Kamala Beach Hotel and Resort Phuket, an award-winning beach resort located on the west side of Phuket Island, only 35 minutes from Phuket Airport.
