The main aspect of the Phra Nakhon Khiri Park is the palace that sits atop this 92 meter high mountain peak. The palace was originally commissioned by King Rama IV because he was so fond of the way the Phra Nakhon Khiri Park looked. He wanted a palace to reside there so that royalty such as himself could bask among it and be a part of the majestic nature that the park had to offer.

The middle or central peak is a big chedi named Phra That Chom Phet. The eastern peak houses the Wat Phra Kaeo, the royal temple, built in similar fashion to the Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok. The whole complex was built as a summer palace by King Mongkut, with construction finished in 1860.
