Doi Suthep or Doi Pui used to be known as Doi Oi Chang. Its new name comes from the name of a hermit,
Prarusiwasuthep who lived at Doi Suthep-Pui was a protected forest. In 1973, The Royal Forest Department decided
that Doi Suthep and 13 other forest areas in the country should eventually be national parks. The Royal Forest
Department sent Mr.Panya Boonsomboon to survey the area.

In 1981 Doi Suthep national park in Chiang Mai was registered as the country's 24th national park. In the following
year additional areas were annexed to the park, bringing the total area to 261 square kilometers.

The topography of Doi Suthep is high mountains composed of many ridge systems. The prominent peaks are Doi
Suthep, Doi Pui and Doi Buagha. Doi pui is the highest at 1,658 maters above sea level. The park serves as the
source of headwaters for the Ping river tributaries.

After that, the national park committed decided that only forest in good condition should be included in Doi Suthep-
Pui National park and areas occupied by villagers should be excluded. In 1981, as the 24th national park of Thailand
which encompasses 161.06 square kilometers. The following year, an additional 100 square kilometers were annexed
to the park, bringing the total to 261.06 square.

Special one is Phu Ping Ratchanivej palace and Waterfall in the park.

Phu Ping Ratchanivej palace, This beautiful palace serves as a vacation home for the King and Queen and the royal
family. The palace was built in 1960 in thai architecture. Within the ground, the original landscaping has been
preserved as much as possible while planting various species of flowers. The palace is located 4 km from the park
headquarters and is open the public on Fridays and public holidays.

Huey Kaew Waterfall

It is located near the Cruba Sriwichai Memorial, not far from the main road. You can walk to Wang Bua Ban, a
beautiful pool at the base of Pha Ngoeb Criff.

Monthathan Waterfall

This place is a beautiful, nine-tiered waterfall that flows over a cliff. It is about 3 kilometers from Huay Kaew
Waterfall.

Mae Sa Waterfall

The combination of 8 falls separated by distances of 100 to 500 meters. From Chiang Mai, travel north on the Chiang
Mai - Mae Rim road (route 107) and Mae Rim - Samoeng road (route 1096). You will find turn off road to the left
(south) to Mae Sa waterfall. Other waterfalls are found along the same stream, including Palad and Paw Paw Paw.
Further away are Sisangwan, Mahidol, Tadmawg-Wanghang and Tadmawgfa waterfalls.

Tard Mork Waterfall

It is far from Mae Rim District about 14 kilometers on Mae Rim - Sa Meung Road. It's a quiet and moist forest
especially in hot season.

Mork Fa Waterfall

One of a nice waterfall in Mae Tang District. Travelling on Chiang Mai - Fang (Road number 107) and keep to the left
on Mae Malai - Pai (Road number 1095) about 58 kilometers. Moreover there are Mork Fa Cave and Nature trail near
the fall.
