Bus fare from Bangkok to Chiang rai


Bangkok to Chiang rai by plane similar to Chiang Mai province, getting to Chiang Rai province by airplane is fairly simple, as it too hosts a convenient modern (international) airport on Chiang Rai city's doorstep. The only operating international flights, however, are currently from Kunming in China. Nevertheless, more routes are supposed to be added in the near future, such as from Hong Kong, Vientiane and Mandalay. As well as from Bangkok (1 hr 20 min), domestic flights also operate from the neighbouring province of Chiang Mai (40 min).

Bangkok to Chiang rai by bus. The bus station in Chiang Rai city is located on Prasopsuk Road. Buses depart and arrive here regularly from many of the major towns throughout Thailand, as well as daily departures to and from Bangkok's Mor Chit 2 (Northern) Bus station. Inside the main terminal building is an information desk with all the routes, departure times and prices etc.There are different types of buses available; regular, air-conditioned and VIP air-conditioned with luxury reclining seats.

Bangkok to Chiang rai by boat is a combined bus and boat trip to Chiang Rai can be made by taking a local bus from Chiang Mai to Tha Ton which takes approximately three hours, and continuing on a long-tail boat along the Mae Kok River (4-6 hours). The boat fare is 160 baht per person or 1,600 per boat.

Note: There is no train service to Chiang Rai.
