Songkran Festival Phuket Thailand 2008 will once again marked by the water based festivities, which traditionally were limited to sprinking some water on the head of your elders, or going to the temple for a blessing and sprinkle from a Monk. These days, water fights are the order of the day, though the temple is still important (see photos below). Just about anywhere you go, there are people lined up along the street ready with buckets of water and huge water pistols to drench anyone passing by. It can be great fun if you are in the mood. It can also be dangerous, as some folks get carried away with the occasion and fire water at passing motorbikes. People also tend to drink plenty of alcohol, and Songkran is well know for its high accident statistics, depsite police crackdowns, roadblocks.

Anyway they have other special for Songkran Day in Phuket at Rawai Muay Thai Camp, the world's biggest water fight. All of Thailand celebrates the Songkran festival with a massave water fight.
During the Songkran festival the streets are lined with 1000's people armed with
buckets of water, they are ready to spash every one that passes bye ( locals & tourists! ).
Between Sunrise & Sunset expect to get wet if you venture out doors during the Songkran Festival

The Songkran Festival is a celebration of the Thai New Year.
It is the start of the wet season, a time to reflect on the past year & the new year ahead.

Others area in Phuket truckloads of young people drive around the island throwing buckets of fresh water at one another. It is probably not the best day for visitors to the island to walk around shopping. However, in most of the island's hotels, the lovely rituals of Songkran are celebrated by staff who pay respect not only to their managers but to valued guests. Some resorts offer tour programs to local temples where their international guests can join in the Buddhist religious rites of paying respect to monks.
