can not get code box to allow customizing.

I tried to customize the link code in the link code exchange but when I save it it goes blank. I can add a few letters but when I save it it all disappears. It came with hotel code but when I deleted it the box stopped working

Joomla 1.5.9  I should be able to change the code box to code for my banner ad, but it will not save when I edit it. I am talking about the code a visitor would copy to there web site before I ad them to mine. Well that code in the set up area will not allow me to edit it.
