As far as I understand, it's just a method of gardening that seeks to be environmentally-friendly. THere's an article on TreeHugger that I'm using for reference. It's a step beyond just gardening organically, and it insists on water conservation and recycling, composting, refusing the use of peat (extracting peat moss from peat bogs is very environmentally detrimental) educating others about eco-gardening, etc. Basically, it appears to just be a style of organic gardening that seeks to go above and beyond the avoidance of pesticides and chemicals.
