A price of $90 a night is in the luxury level for Bangkok!  When you can get a private room for around $10 a night and a decent place with air, hot water, private toilet/bath, cable TV, maid service and safety box for around $30, your budget is pretty high.

Look at this place too, the Asia Hotel, it is right on a Skytrain stop.  This hotel is in a mostly "no bar" area.  Close to shopping on Phetchaburi Road, restaurants, travel agencies for tours, etc.  Choose a suite if you want or get a cheaper room and spend the money you save on shopping.

Good luck.
